Will my phone work?

These checks take a couple of minutes and are free. Nothing here is stored.

iPhone

  1. Open Settings, then General, then About.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and look for 'Available SIM' or an EID number.
  3. If you see an EID, your iPhone supports eSIM.
  4. To check carrier lock, open Settings, General, About and find 'Carrier Lock'. It should say 'No SIM restrictions'.

Android

  1. Open Settings, then Network & internet (or Connections).
  2. Tap SIMs, SIM manager, or Mobile network.
  3. Look for an option like 'Add eSIM', 'Download a SIM instead', or 'Add mobile plan'.
  4. If that option exists, your phone likely supports eSIM. Menu names vary by manufacturer.

Before you travel

  • Confirm your phone is unlocked — a locked phone cannot use another carrier's plan.
  • Check whether your phone can run two lines at once, so you can keep your home number for verification texts.
  • Install any plan while you still have reliable internet. Most eSIMs need a connection to install.
  • Save your provider's support contact and your plan reference somewhere offline.
  • Ask your current carrier what happens to your line while you're abroad, and what roaming would cost.

Important

Coverage, speeds, pricing, data allowances, phone-number features, hotspot use, and availability vary by provider, device, destination, network conditions, and fair-use policy. Always review the provider's current terms before purchase.
